Did you know that up to 80% of jobs aren’t posted publicly? EIGHTY PERCENT?
Instead, most jobs are advertised internally, shared through word of mouth or other networks, or recruited into via online shoulder tapping.
If you’ve been scrolling Seek and other job boards, then that might be frustrating enough to make you want to tear your hair out (but don’t, please!).
This “hidden job market” is where many of the best opportunities live, but tapping into it requires a different approach than the one you may have learnt. It’s not about sending out applications. It’s about building relationships, asking questions, and letting people know what you’re looking for. It’s about attraction of the right role, not chasing one.
When I started exploring new career paths, I leaned on my network in ways I never had before. I reached out to friends, former colleagues, and even acquaintances to ask for advice and insights. Those conversations opened doors I didn’t even know existed. MASSIVE learning.
The lesson? The best opportunities often come from the connections you build and the courage to ask for help.
So, a little homework for you (the fun kind, I promise): who could you reach out to this week to expand that network just a little bit further?
Want to put this into action? I’ve created a free worksheet to help you tap into the hidden job market. Download it here Tapping the Hidden Job Market
