How do you feel about Mondays?
To be honest, I used to hate them.
A lot.
Over twenty years ago, when I was working in clinical research, I would dread going into work on Mondays. My weekends would be ruined, because all I could think about was going into work the next week.
These days, I call those feelings the 'Sunday Scaries'. The mood-killing, persistent, cyclical thoughts and feelings about work that make it impossible to disconnect or relax.
Think back on this past weekend. How much of it did you lose thinking about work on Monday? Did the Sunday Scaries come knocking?
Here's the dangerous bit that most people miss: the Sunday Scaries are not supposed to be there. We're taught that these are normal, that it's just a part of being at work, but there is another way.
It's not normal to feel so drained, worried, and unfulfilled about what you do for work that you can't stop feeling sick about it when you're supposed to be relaxing.
It's not normal to hate an entire day of the week because that's the day you have to return to work.
Twenty years ago, it took a massive jolt to the system and a major traumatic event for me to realise that what I was feeling at work was NOT normal. That doesn't have to be the case for you.
Let this be your jolt to the system: there's a career out there that you'll love, even on bad days. The only way to find it is to start creating it for yourself. Here's to loving Mondays again,
