There's nothing more valuable than your values.
Over twenty years of career coaching, there's one thing that keeps unlocking this process for my clients: their values. I've had people go from hating where they are to leaping out of bed every morning and into their work day, all because they started making decisions from a values-based place.

I know, it sounds too easy. It sounds too good to be true. But this is the work that people don't do, because it feels too hard, or confusing, or intimidating to get up close and personal with what matters to you.
But you don't have to shy away, because there's a system to figure it out, without stressing. Uncovering your values should be a fun, exploratory process. There, I said it! Soul work is good, fun work (even when it's hard).

Long story short, your values are what you want out of your career. Better yet, they're what you need. Your core values drive what you do, and if you make your next career decision in touch with these values, you can't step wrong. You literally can't, because you'll always be making a decision that comes from the truest, deepest, most essential version of yourself.

And let me be clear, operating from your values doesn't mean giving up other important things, like financials or family time. These fit into the values equation. Tapping into what drives you is the ultimate way to clear away uncertainty, because you will always, always understand the 'why' of what comes next.

Figuring out what drives you (and letting those values take the reins) should feel good!
Answer this question: What matters more to you than money?
Now, ask yourself: Why?
Those are your values. In short, your values are what matters most to you. Values help us articulate what’s important to us. They’re the missing link, or the language we need to understand why we feel the way we do.
When a non-negotiable value is not met at work, one of two things will happen:

-
You will stay and be miserable.
-
You will leave.

But you want to make career decisions that are fulfilling, enriching, and align with what you need. If you know your values, you can gain job satisfaction, feel motivated and engaged at work, and share common values with your co-workers. It’s possible to have everything else right and still be unhappy at work because your values are clashing with what you’re doing every day.

So, if you do just one thing before heading into a new role, let it be this: uncover your values, and let them drive your decision.

I now have clarity on what I want from work, which I wasn’t getting in my current role. Identifying my values was a game-changer, helping me understand what truly matters to me and guiding me toward the right path.
